  1. I have a Sony DCR-PC5 (ntsc) cam. i can capture without a prob. ntsc tapes using premiere 6.5.
Ok...the thing is, i recently got a PAL DV video and i figured i cannot view this with my ntsc cam. I tried anywayz and i actually was able to see it. Still surprised by this, i hooked up the firewire and start capturing the video....but i cannot see the signal on premiere...just audio.

ok hereīs the question: since the cam is NTSC, but is able to play PAL, is there a way to capture the video to the pc???

    thanx a lot

    Hello,

What type of board do you have in your PC, the board where you connect your camcorder to ?

Since, on these boards, the TV system is set, if it's designed for NTSC signals, it won't be able to properly read anything else, except for the audio.

If it is a FireWire board, and the capture is done through Premiere, there must be somewhere in the options, a setting which indicates what system is being used, either PAL/Secam or NTSC. Although I don't use Premiere, this setting is likely to be there somewhere.

firewire cards dont care what the heck it is . ntsc, pal , hd or data .... because it IS just data ..

premiere i dont think cares either (but you can try to make project properties PAL ... unlike avid pro , in which you have to buy two different versions

if you cant see it in premiere -- your cam is not spitting it out

  4. Hi...thanx for your reply...

Iīm capturing (actually transfering) with a firewire (s. blaster audigy front panel) and in premiere i set both pal and ntsc to try....but nothing.

The camera is ntsc...does not have settings to modify that for output, input, etc...but it plays pal normally...weird

damn...i agree that itīs just data so it shouldnīt be a prob....so i guess there has to be a solution.....

hereīs another question....since itīs data, is there a prog (besides these well known video tools) that can capture the DV cassette info to the HD as a file without going through a video aplication?

i hope someone can figure it out....if not, thanx anyway for the previous help.

If you can see it in the camera then there is a good chance you can transfer it. Try Windv or DVIO, they are small simple, and free programs.

When you do try these alternative programs (I use WinDV), first test it with an NTSC tape to prove the connection is working. If you can't capture the PAL with WinDV, then it is the camera is not supporting the DV port for the PAL tape. PS I use PAL with WinDV.

  8. tweedledee.....you are my hero.
DVIO took care of the prob. Since it just transfers the data (regardless format, signal, blah blah blah), the problem was solved.

Thanx everybody else for caring....thanx a lot.

  9. Although your cam will play back a PAL signal it cannot transfer via firewire/analogue to a TV/VCR/PC you will need a DV deck like a DSR 11 to play firewire to the PC even though this will only play it but not convert from or to ntsc/pal.

I have the reverse PAL version of VX2000 and a DSR11.

The DSR11 will play both NTSC/PAL
The VX2000 Will play both and even secam but will only transfer pal video

    Hope this helps.
