I have been trying to set my system up so that I can use VirtualDub to do the post processing of some DV files, then frame serve to TMPGEnc to convert to MPEG 1.
I keep running into problems getting VirtualDub to recognise the DV files, which use the 'dvsd' codec. Either Raw files from capturing (using scenalyzer) or generated from Premiere.
What is the easiest way to get around this problem? I have tried installing the DV200/300 tools from pinnacle, but this then causes more problems for tools such as Windows Media Player.
My setup: Windows XP, 1,200MHZ Athlon, TMPGEnc2.01, VirtualDub 147.

i installed the mainconcept dv codec, which let vdub read in the avi's. the only problem is, vdub will only accept type2 dv, type1 appears with no audio

Have tried the mainconcept one today and it fixes up all the problems. Problem with the water mark it leaves behind, but found it less of a problem if I frameserve from Virtual Dub to TMPGEnc. When I did this, it seemed to dissapear

Is the trial MC Codec still working after 5 Minutes. I always getting a black frame and/or no audio after 5 Min. of footage!

haven't tried a clip that long yet
I guess I will have to do that and see what happens.

Please try it. I gave up - even as I did get the official codec with my Hollywood Bridge - it didn't work (after 5 Minutes) with any Video program except MainConcept programs.
If you want a hazzle free codec, try the Adaptec Codec. I using that and it works perfectly. -
Just started a test now. Will take a while, but I'll get the results up.
Do you have alinke for downloading the DVSoft codec so I can try that out? -
Tested this and converted a 6:33 long clip, no sign of black screens or watermarks!

I use the MainConcept codec on a regular basis for 15-30 minute productions...never a problem or a hiccup. I used to use the Adaotec codec when I had a DPS SPARK card and I think the MC codec is higher quality. Besides, the DVSOFT won't work in W2k.

I don't know about Quality, bit DVSoft definitly works under Win2K. The Installation is of course a little bit cumbersome, but it really works!
