  1. Hi!
I'm trying to find the cheapest option for a minidv camera/deck with firewire so I can bring minidv footage into my computer.

I have a minidv camera already, but I think the firewire port might be out (it's a sony DCR-PC9). I'm going to keep it because it's small, even though the firewire's out.
I'm hoping to find a cheap minidv deck, or minidv camera with firewire that I can just leave at home for bringing footage into the computer.

    any recommendations?

    thanks!

Your best choice might be a used camera with a broken lens.

The cheapest standalone deck I've seen sells for around $999 new, it also has a SVHS deck that will transfer through the firewire too. It's made by JVC, but I forget the model number.

  3. I have a Sony TRV-11 digital camcorder that I bought like three and a half years ago brand new on E-bay for $800 (it was going for $1100 in Best Buy at the time).

I just recently bought a spare TRV-11 on E-bay for $175 in mint condition. The only thing that it came with was a whopping 7 hour battery as part of the price!!

Check out E-bay for some great buys on used camcorders. The real reason that I bought the additional TRV-11 is that I like shooting with two cameras simultaneously and it makes your life a whole lot easier editing two videos from the same model camcorder.
