  1. Have a mpeg file that I am going to covert to VCD, and I have converting a few before. This one when I try to use NERO and it starts to encode it, it says "error does not support this format". When I try to open in VIRTUAL DUB it says "error cannot detect file type" Why? What type of mpeg is this file. It plays perfect just cannot covert the darn thing. Also this is a 700mb file so it pretty much wise not to try to covert to SVCD seeing it would take until next week to finish.

AviCodec will give you information about mpeg files.

  3. I often find that splitting a video into a video and an audio stream then using these two separate works when using the original video fails.

If avicodec cant read the file then there is a problem with the file , it could be a header problem , you need an mpeg repair software , I haven't needed to find one yet. Have a look around the tools section. Unless someone can suggest one.

Restream is one you can use to fix stuff on MPEG files without re-encoding.

capman21....are you using VirtualDubMod or just VirtualDub?

I am using Virtual Dub 1.5.1 and just trying to open the file with it and keeps saying the same thing. Even tried TMPEG and same thing happens
