Help! DVD-R TO DVD-R. Vob files confusing me

I've got some sports events on DVD-R which were originally done with very bad menus and I want to re-author after having ripped the DVD-R to my HD. The problem is that the vob files are all jumbled up. Is there any way to kind of decode the vob files so that each vob file corresponds with a given sports event on the original DVD-R??

e.g if there are 4 sports events on the DVD-R I want each vob file to correspond to each event. Just as the mpegs were before they were authored.

I ripped with DVD decrypter and I have DVDstripper to get rid of whatever menus are on the original disc, but this is not doing what I want. The only possible way I can see is to rename the VOB files as MPEG files then edit these by cutting and joining so they actually make sense, but this would degrade the quality when I have to render the changes again.

Is there any way to rip so that the vob files actually make sense??

DVD Decrypter and Smartripper offer the option to rip by chapters or cells. Does the original DVD have chapters?. If it does than ripping by chapter may help. Cells are smaller units within chapters but some DVD's have the same number of cells as chapters so ripping by cell might not help.

The chapters don't seem to make sense either so I don't think that will solve the problem. If I can just find software that gets the vob files back to the way the mpegs were before authoring. There must be some software out there to do that job.

I've seen demultiplexing mentioned, but it seems the best that can happen there is all the vob files are made into one big vob file. I need the vob files as they were originally as a number of different mpeg files that make sense.

OK, I've used DVDdecrypter to get one big vob file. Now I'm wondering what is the best software to use so I can use to change my VOB file to an MPEG2 and split it into 4 or 5 sections.

I don't know if I need to demux, but it would be very helpful if I can end up with seperate MPEG2 files from this 1 big vob file.
