A Great New !
At last, DVRFlash has been ported to MacOS X.
With this tool, PIONEER DVR-104, 105, 106 & 107 can have their firmware updated. No need to plug the drive in a PC!
IDE/ATAPI, USB, USB2 and FireWire drives can be updated.
"xvi" did it for us.
You can find ready-to-use kits at :
http://www.macetvideo.com/flashpioneerosx/flashpioneerosx.html
This page is in french but download links are really easy to find.
After downloading, just double click on the PIONEER DVR-10x Updater icon and follow instructions.

Do you mean on a DVR-107D ? Yes, and it worked like a charm.Originally Posted by BernieR
For the DVR-107, the firmware is the NIL's "patched" RPC1 v.1.1.3, and the "flasher application" is simply "DVR Flash" but a new special OSX version.

Can't read French. What does the Firmware Flashing DO to the drives? What are the advantages?

Go and take a look on the xvi's forum there :Originally Posted by rorschach

This is great ! FINALLY !!
Let it be known. You don't have to use the HACKED Firmware with this flasher. You can swap the two Firmware files that come with the Flasher with the OFFICIAL Files....and it works!
My case. A stock Pioneer DVR-105 (Not from Apple), firmware version 1.2.1. I removed the files R5100004.133 & R5100104.133 and replaced them with the Pioneer files R5100004.130 & R5100104.130 from the Pioneer site. Didn't work, the Flasher was looking for files ending in .133. Okaayyyy. Rename them R5100004.133 & R5100104.133. It works. Toast 6.05 says it's now version 1.30. I had to restart the machine for the System Profiler to wake up, but after restart, SP says;
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105
Revision: 1.30
Serial Number:
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 1
Socket Type: Internal
And it burns as it should.
Did I say this is GREAT?

Yes of course, but sounds like a better idea to flash your DVD burner, with the hacked one firmware.Originally Posted by TugBoat

I went to the site mentioned above and could not find a good reason to update the firmware for my DVR-106. Where does it say it can make your drive burn at 8X?Originally Posted by BernieR

...including the ability to burn all media at 8x!

The advantage for the 107 is (on top of being region-free), that you can also burn at 8x using (most) 4x media. No need to use 8x-rated media, which is more expensive.Originally Posted by destreagaI like systems, their application excepted. And...
An other advantage with a Rpc1 firmware, is that you can extract (Ripping) at 12x instead of the 2x speed tied up by Pionner in its original firmwares. -

Yes your 106 will also take some advantages to be flashed with the patched firmware :Originally Posted by Expanderz
I you'll apply it, to your DVR-106,
- Your driver will be a Rpc1 reader (Zone free).
And, you'll be able :
- to burn at 2x the 1x DVDs
- to burn at 4x the good quality 2x DVDs
- to extract (Ripping) at 12x, instead of the 2x speed tied up by Pionner in its original firmwares.
-
alkaline, thanks for the summery, I guess I should add that my 106D is an external Lacie not an Apple Superdrive. I think my ripping speed is already at 12x. I wonder how I could check that?

Only with a watch in your hand, before and after the flashing. (You need a fast computer to have some difference).Originally Posted by Expanderz
BTW, all Pioneer's DVD writers have the extract (Ripping) speed tied up at 2x with original firmwares.
-
Ok, 2x to 12x. Thats a nice speed bump.
I'll wait till my warranty runs out, I just bought it 2 months ago.
Thanks for all the help.20"iMac 2.0Ghz 1GB RAM : internal 250GB HD : 128GB Lacie FireWire d2 external HD : DVD-RW Lacie 4X d2 : iBot Firewire : OS 10.4.8 -
Thanks Wise Weasel for clearing that up. Region free is cool, but my 106 has always burned 2X discs at 4 times. At least TDK ones burned at 4X.
-
If you read one of Expanderz posts it states he was talking about the 107 8X thing and explained that the 106 is region free and now rips at 12X and will burn a 2X disc at 4X if you use the update . If you have the time to nit pick about stupid shit at least read through the thread to get your facts straight. Not only that but you your self responded with the same anwsers.Originally Posted by alkaline

Actually, I think it's you who needs to re-read the thread . . . it seems you've confused posts by Expanderz and alkaline. Keep the hostility down to a minimum here, we're all trying to help each other. Also, as you may have guessed, English isn't alkaline's primary language, although he does read and write it quite well.Originally Posted by destreagaI like systems, their application excepted. Just thought I'd post my results. I have a DVR-105 in a ClubMac FW case that had already been flashed with essentially the same firmware, except back when 1.30 was current instead of 1.33.
After trying to convince myself it wasn't necessary for awhile, I ran the updater and it went off without a hitch.
What no one has mentioned yet is that before this new tool, your choices were flashing it on a PC or using the OS9 flasher if you could still boot into OS9. It wouldn't work in an external case.
Well, anyway, now it does and that's cool and extra-convenient. -
I just bought 5 107D burners for a standalone duplicator. Is this firmware upgrade for me too? Sure wouldn't mind getting 8x on the GO4 disks.

I didn't mean to be hostile. That's not what this forum or the others are about. There are a few extenuating factors (that I won't mention) that led me to snap at alkaline like that and I'm sorry. Engish is not my only language either, I do use it the most and take most things written in english at face value. Again I'm sorry.
-
Sure, that would work swell. Not sure how reliable it is, however...Originally Posted by gwoilerI like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
