  1. Hey guys, i got a dvd that has only DTS 5.1 sound. It only shows video in all my dvd players. There is no sound. It works fine on the computer, but I was wondering is there any way I can play it on the dvd player without reburning?

    TIA,

The DVD standard requires that either LPCM or AC3 audio be present on the disk. It can also have DTS, but not by itself. AFAIK if you only have DTS then it won't play on most players, especially ones that don't have a DTS decoder. If you really want the DTS then you should include the AC3 as well, which will make it compatible with most players. I don't think there's any way around it.

  3. thanks for the quick response!

so why would people spready around a non-commercial free dvd in DTS 5.1 or whatever? I downloaded (its free, not piracy) and its 16x9 and DTS 5.1 audio (as it says in the description). Who will be able to play this? If I cant fix it without reburning, then how do i fix it with reburning? How would I convert the DTS 5.1 audio to the normal AC3/LCPM or whatever audio so it will be compatible with all players?

    Thanks,

Other people might have more detailed instructions for you, but it would go like this:

-Rip the elementary streams (M2V and DTS) to your hard disk.
-Convert the DTS to AC3 (there must be some program for that).
-Re-author and burn the M2V and AC3 back to DVD using your favourite authoring package.

    Hope that helps a bit.

i dont understand why u cant play a DTS only stream disc...it seems to me like u would just need a DTS decoder.

  7. I've personally backed up several DVDs with one DTS audio track only, and they all play fine in my Sony DVP-F21 standalone.

  8. Are your DVD players/Receivers DTS compatible? I agree with NaturalZinc, I believe that a DTS decoder is the only requirement.
