need help on eliminating vert. lines when capturing

Has anyone experienced upward moving vertical lines in your captures? That's what I am getting when capturing from any source (VHS, Digital cable, etc.). These are faint but noticeable if you look for them. I am using my MSI Nvidia geforce 3 with s-video input. I am thinking that maybe it's the fans either on my video card or from the cpu that may be causing the vertical lines but can't be sure. I have tried using different s-video cables (the best I have is a Monster 3 meter s-video cable that is well sheilded) but still the problem is there. If anyone has any suggestions for me to try to eliminate this problem, please let me know. Thanks.

I get them sometimes when capturing tv. I noticed that it depends on signal quality you have.

Those vertical bars are called "Ghost". TMPGEnc has DeGhost filter.
That's all i know.

HERRINGBONE NOISE ... that's what it's called. Filter your signal, look for filters at Radio Shack. I have a few things here, DC blocks, attentuators, powered amps, etc. This is a coax issue.

could you be a little more specific as to exactly which filter i should first try? i have been to the digitalFAQ site you mentioned and i am still a bit confused as to what to get for the 'herringbone noise' as you call it.

i have dl'd and am going to try the DVD Decrypter and Womble MPEGVCR also. if i like those, i will probably give a donation. i do a lot of DVD recording on DVD+RWs and need to edit them.

i forgot to mention on my last quote. i am perplexed as to why there are white lines when viewing TV and after recording when my satellite reception is exceptionally clear?
