I think the question concerns a streaming file.

  4. My guess is he wants to capture streaming audio to a file. Not extract it from a file already on his computer.

Step one: place a tape recorder next to speakers....

Just kidding, I don't have a real answer.

  6. Two Answers Buddy

    1) Record using something like Nero Wave Editor, Sound Forge or Cool Edit using either Sound Card Wave Out, Stereo Mix, or Use a Male to male stereo loopback cable and record through line in from speaker out

    2) Use Streambox VCR to capture the actual source audio and use Wiscroft Ripper to encode the real audio to MP3 or WAV or WMA.

total recorder is good for this, but see if you can select "Stereo Mix" as an input for Audacity - if so, you should record exactly what you hear from your speakers.

I've had some soundcards that could do this, and some that couldn't.

    Look for this :

    http://www.cocsoft.com/

This will record what you want, I know it works as I've used it, but be warned it won't download ALL streams, the people who are streaming that data have done that on purpose so you won't rip their data

If you have a full-duplex soundcard (can record and play at the same time) then there is loads of software that can do this as well, the hard way, in realtime

The first method will download a stream in a few seconds, instead of realtime which most streamers manage the hard way
