Just wondering if someone could recommend a code-free/PAL to NTSC/macrovision free player that would work great with the Panasonic E80 recorder. With the Apex models, would I be able to play basically any disc from around the world(e.g. a macro-protected region 2 PAL disc) out to my Panny recorder and record it free of macrovision and NTSC converted? Will the Apex units play ANY DVD out with no macrovision? Should I go with an Apex, or can someone recommend another all-in-one unit to slave to my recorder? Help....please....Thanks,

    Jonny

Cyberhome 300/400/500 players are far better than any Apex. Only flaw in Cyberhome is the 300 will not make 352x240 DVD look good. Others fine.

So, Lordsmurf, if I were to get a Cyberhome 500 right now, do the macrovision AND region-free hacks(which are the most accurate ones?) work on even players from 2004? Because yes, I'd rather get a new player easily at BestBuy instead of getting a few years old overpriced Apex off Ebay, etc. Thanks for your help.

FYI, You need to disable both Macrovision and CGMS-A in order to record copy-protected DVDs to your E80, and only a few DVD players (Sampo DVE-631CF being one of them) are known to be hacked for both. It may be easier to find an external device which can disable both and use it with a region-free DVD player.

See the other thread for a similar question:

Note: The Macrovision literature claims that only 40% of DVD players implement the CGMS/A correctly, so you may get lucky with the other 60% players with only Macrovision removed. Just connect the player with your recorder and try recording something even with Macrovision present. If there is no warning from the recorder, then you only need to remove MV, otherwise it requires removing both.
