  1. Ok I'm using an http://www.yuan.com.tw/en/products/vdo_mpg600.html to capture foxtel digital (Australian cable TV) through an svideo input. I keep getting these weird bars moving up and down the screen. The video is noticable brighter within these bars.

    Here is an unedited screenshot.

The region between the red lines is darker than the regions above and bellow.

These bars move up and down the screen. Any ideas on what might cause them and/or ways to remove them post capture.

  2. Hey,
Those bars are indication that signal is not as good as hope it is
I get them from time to time on some specific channels. The simplest way how i deal with them is is by using Smart Smoother HiQ filter for VirtualDub. It smoothens out the noise and also changing bright-dark bars more or less...

    Besides that.. no clue

Seems like a nice quality capture otherthan the band you are talking about but most likely this is due to your signal which is probably something you can't do anything about.

I'm guessing it only happens on certain channels or does it happen on all channels?

Is it noticeable on the TV are only on captures?

    P.S.
If it is there on both the TV and captures it would show up more easily on captures but look hard (now that you know what it looks like) to see if it is also there on your TV.
