  1. I could not find a proper place to put this and it is a bit off topic so please redirect if it is improper.

I have been reading and reading for the best options to build a machine for video editing. I searched and did not find any recent posts for suggestions.

So could anyone help me to build a video editing PC?

    Questions...
Should I go dual or single processor?
What speed for the editing hard drive?
    Can you suggest a processor?
    Can you suggest a motherboard?

I am looking to spend about $500 to build this.

I have the following items or have access to them...
200GB 7200RPM Western Digital hard drive
    512MB PC2700 Kingston RAM
I can get a DVD burner for ~$75
    Standard floppy drive
    Firewire card

Go to SatStorm's guide and scroll down about halfway to the "hardware" section. He addresses the PC issues for getting into the hobby:

It is accessible by using the guides section in the upper left, then go to Articles, then the Newbie section, if you need to read more.

200gig drive, nice size. Partition it wisely!
512 RAM, up that to a gig, especially if using XP.

Read that first. Prices are cheaper now. Don't partition that 200GB, leave it as is and use it as a second drive. If you're going to do video work I highly recommend having two drives. Get another drive for a boot drive, whatever you want to pay for. 512MB of RAM is all you need for XP. Video apps generally don't use that much memory. The only reason I have loads of it is because I'm running a dozen things at once or doing massive RAM previews in AfterEffects.

Read the above link, it will explain much...
