  1. Hi,

    Could someone point me to the tutorial that shows the quickest/easiest way to convert multiple Divx (TV eps) to a DVD.
    Or just list the tools that I should use and I'll go and read up on them.

    Thanks for any pointers.

    Floob.

  3. Looks good. Thanks.

    I hope it can deal with PAL ok.
    I'll give the demo a bash.

  4. It can deal with a lot more than a simple PAL encoding
    Get your episodes all together in one place.
    Find out how long each is.
    Add up the minutes.
    Plug that number into the bitrate calculator.
    Now you have the bitrate needed for each episode.
    Encode each in Mainconcept at that bitrate.
    Load them all into your dvd authoring program.
    With luck, they should all fit.
    Max would be probably 8 25min episodes per dvdr. Better quality with 6, even better with 4....

    For newbs I would recommend TMPGenc Plus for encoding and TMPGenc DVD Author for authoring.
    You will find good guides for these tools.

    Very rarely is this kind of conversion "quick" and "easy". You'll learn that soon enough. Best of luck to you.

  7. Hi,

    Mainconcepy Mpeg Encoder is certianly very easy to use, but about half way through the file I am finding audio sync issues.
    Are there particular settings I could use to get round this, or is there pre-work I need to do on the files?

  8. Well I've started using Virtualdub to strip the audio out.

    Although I dont see the
    Audio->Full processing mode (Greyed out)
    Audio->Compression (Greyed out)
    Audio->Conversion (Greyed out)

    options that are mentioned here:
    https://www.videohelp.com/divxtovcd.htm#audio

    So I just chose this option (File->Save WAV), and got about a 20MB wav file for a 220MB divx file - sound right?

    Anyway, I was a bit concerned that I've ripped the wav incorrectly seing as there are a million options in virtual dub, and I went - File, Save.

    So I put that as a separate file into Mainconcept Mpeg encoder and presume it will sort the fps options etc.. automatically and hopefully it wont have sync errors this time and I'll end up with a DVD compliant MPEG file? (said about 45mins on my 667MHz).

    Fingers crossed.

    I think Virtualdub is unable to recognize the type of audio in your file. Otherwise those options wouldn't be greyed out. The wav that you created is essentialy the compressed audio. The idea is to decompress. Analyze the file with G-spot and report the type of audio it has. There are other ways to decompress the audio.

    If your second attempt to convert with Mainconcept succeeds(I'm not sure that it will) then disregard this.

  10. Ooo - I'm happy. So far

    I seem to have created a valid MPEG file with no sync issues!
    So thats good. (I was surprised how quick the audio is rippped from a DivX file - about 15 secs)

    My 230MB DivX turned into a 710MB MPEG file.
    I am presuming this file will happily be turned into part of a DVD compilation using TMPG DVD Author.

    Reboot: Not sure I'm going to tweak the bit-rate setting, I think the defualt is VBR and it has a suitable min and max. The results seem ok.

    Teegee420: I guess virtualdub correctly dealt with the audio rip, even though I may be missing a relevant audio codec? Not sure if this will be an issue. Am I using a sub-standard audio rip file without using the correct codecs?

    Ideally I'd like Mainconcept MPEG encoder to have an option to rip audio on its own - really would be a good all-in-one tool then.

    (G-Spot says this about the file:
    0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
    2 Compatible codecs installed)

    Thanks for all your help.

    Hi,

    Looks like I missed this thread.
    You can try my tool DIKO, it's aimed to make the conversions from AVI to DVD "quick and easy":

    Have fun.
