Hey there,
What package will do everything concerning the burning of DVD's?
I got a writer and it came with nothing, no drivers and no software. What software will write everything to DVD without getting too technical? Ive got tmpg for encoding files but after Ive encoded them I cant do anything with them. I used to use Nero for regular CD's but thats only an old version now and will not support DVDs. Is it worth upgrading to the latest version?
Hope thats coherant. I mainly want to put downloaded concerts on DVD to watch in my DVD player but other options will come in handy as well.
thanks
Mike

Nero 6 Ultra with DVD Decrypter will handle just about everything.

I would start with DVD Shrink. With Nero installed, it can rip, transcode, and burn. I use this most of the time. If you have a long movie, you may want to use another transcoder, as Shrink is not the best out there. DVD2one is better. Cost about $40 I think. With DVD2one, you will need a ripper (Smart Ripper or DVD Decrypter). Hope this helps.

You've already got tmpgenc, all you need is Nero 6 (or 5.5).

Once you have encoded with TMPGenc you will need to author the files for the DVD , TMPGenc DVD Author is a good one for learners , then Nero to burn , anything later than 5.5.10.0 will do DVD I think , They are up to something like 6.3.0.3 now or something like that. The later one you use the better it should be.

Thanks for all the replys. Im getting the tmpg authoring tool and will probably just get a version of Nero. I was looking on ebay but quite a few people seem to be selling 'suite 1' editions of the program?
Will check out smart ripper and DVD decoder as well.
Thanks again.

I always fail to see the point in recoding with the likes of TMPGenc. Why? It takes sveral hours. Why not just rip, strip streams, transcode if necessary, and burn? One dvd done in literally 1/2 hour. Some habbits die hard. I have to admit, I started with VCD, and it took the whole night to recode while I slept! Thank hevens for new methods and tools.

want to put downloaded concerts on DVD
We also assumed they are originally avi's. If they are not, then there are other tools, processes to use.
If they are mpeg, then hothandiman is correct, just transcode if needed, author and burn.Cheers, Jim

Hehe, so what does that all mean then? I have files in all forms but quite alot are in Mpeg format after I converted them for use on vcd's months ago. I just backed them up as data waiting till I got a DVD writer.
So all I need to do is 'transcode(?)' them?
Cheers

If you have files in Mpeg1 for vcd they will go on a DVD , You use TMPGenc DVD Author and it will make the necessary tweaks to play on a DVD-R.
If you were to convert the Mpeg1 to Mpeg2 you would NOT improve the quality so you may as well leave them Mpeg1.
You would be able to fit over 7 hours of Mpeg1 on a DVD-R with menus chapters etc.
