  1. Heeelllllllllllllllpppp Meeeee! I had this working great this morning, but I had to reset my PC during the day, and ever since then I have been stuck... Here's the deal...this morning...on my GeForce FX 5200, I have my IBM P76 (17inch VGA Monitor) hooked up to the DVI port of my GeForce FX5200 card (with the help of a DVI to VGA Adapter) and 2nd monitor hooked up to the VGA port of the GeForce card. Originally, I had the desktop shown on the 2nd monitor, but would switch to video FULLscreen everytime window media player opened. I went into Display Properties "settings" tab and clicked Extend my desktop to this monitor for the 2nd monitor, but now that choice is gone!!!! along with the display on my 2nd
monitor. Its just gone, there used to be a list of the 2 monitors to choose from (in “Display Properties” Settings Tab, but now its gone, it just displays the monitor I am on now!!! Here is what I want (I don't care which monitors go to which ports on the video card so tell me to switch them if necessary).

On my main monitor (IBM p76) i want it to just work like a normal PC monitor, no jumping to full screen everytime Windows Media Player opens or whatever. Just normal... On my 2nd monitor, i want to display the same images as the main monitor would (ex: web pages, documents, explorer etc..), but jump to full screen everytime Windows Media player is opened. I already went through the Windows Troubleshooter like 50 times, and I tried to detect displays, I updated my Nvidia drivers and have Nview, and I even tried switching the monitors between the 2 ports (DVI and VGA ports), and I still do not have the option of "extend my desktop to this monitor" (in Display Properties > Settings Tab) for a 2nd monitor! Help me!!! ask me any info you need, I just wanna get this resolved already!

Please help! I beg of you! Its starting to get really frustrating!
    Thanx

there's an option in the Nvidia control panel somewhere "check if your display is not detected" give that a go. do you have anything connected to your TV out? the card could be outputting to that instead of VGA2.

  3. no, nothing is connected to my TV out. I just hooked up a TV to it to see if what you said applied, but no, no video out of that either.

I don't know exactly what your VGA card is, but with mine, an ASUS 9180 dual port card, I had a similar frustration: loosing the second VGA output.

It turned out to be that the second display of the dual card is automatically disabled if the VGA doesn't sense an active monitor connected there during boot. If the monitor is switched off or disconnected, the second display settings are all gone (temporarily). Reconnect the monitor (or switch it on) and they re-appear.

Hope this is what your problem is.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
