    Hi,

I'm newbie in MAC. all i want is to play my DIVX file that i have from PC in my MAC. Cuz i think divx is Divx AVI with MP3. I have MAC OS 10.1.

First of all, the only software that allow to watch any kind of movie file is QT. But when i open with QT, it's blank white screen.

Then i got 3ivx . and DIVX 5.07, DIVX 5.1.1. It appear the picture BUT with NO SOUND.

So i got myself a DIVX DOCTOR 2. It take 1 hour to encode & decode & flatten the file and convert to MOV file.

However, No the wierd thing happen. I finally got sound but with BLANK WHITE SCREEN again! Basically, No PICTURE GOT SOUND
I try to use VLC, Mplayer. both of the couldn't open and keep pop-up a screen stated " VLC unexpectedly quit".

I have no idea and what to do. I have been looking everywhere for solution and i have no result.
Please help! Thank you very much for your time.

If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

Your problem with VLC and MplayerX might be due to either:
    1) They're not compatible with 10.1.x, try upgrading to Panther or at least Jaguar, or
    2) You uncompressed their archives using the default version of Stuffit Expander, which had some issues in 10.1; try upgrading Stuffit Expander to the latest version and download the archives of VLC and MplayerX again.

"Divx Doctor 2" needs "3vix" codec installed to work.

If you are using the combination of 3vix and Divx Doctor 2, you should remove the Divx 5.07 and 5.1.1 files from your computer.

3vix and Divx are competing codecs, and having both of them installed will confuse QuickTime - since QT doesn't know which one it should use.

    Hi guys,

Is Mac OS 10.3 Panther include newer version of Stuffit Expander?

Or i have to get it somewhere else?

ANd is there any other way to watch DIVX or XVID on MAC without converting to MOV?
CUz i have A lot of DIVX files and it insane to convert everything to MOV. Each DIVX file like 700Mb will become 1.7GB of MOV.

Which one better 3ivx or divx or ffmpegx? without all these file can i just use VLC or Mplayer to play?

    thanks alot

PS: my MAC is Titanium PowerBook G4 800mhz. Can i upgrade to panther OS 10.3?

You missed two MOVs and two DIVXs. You also miscapitalized Mac twice, and failed to colourize it both times, which makes me believe that you copied the first "Mac OS 10.3 Panther" from somewhere.

MacOS 10.3.x (Panther) does include a more recent version of Stuffit Expander. Both VLC and MplayerX can play all the files you can throw at it, with sound and everything.

    Note: quote edited and monochromed.

    1. Yes, you can play the movie files directly, with Mplayer and VLC. I use VLC.

It is only if you want to use Quicktime that you need to either: A. Install 3vix codec and use divx doctor to convert divx to mov. or B. Install Divx 5.1.1 codec.

    2. Yes, you can upgrade your PowerBook to OS X 10.3

I draw the line at colourizing words and miscapitalizing things. I can't even read his question without thinking of impolite things to say regarding the (mis)use of coloured text.

Oh, and I noticed your witty pun. Very impressive. My humour is limited to sexual references and insults. You've gone up a notch there.

Notice the little box that lets you specify the font colour above the section that you type a reply in. It's spelling colour in the non-american way. I just noticed that. Kinda cool.

    Hi MikeV

If i use Quicktime to play DIVX or XVID without converting it to MOV, all i need is DIVX 5.1.1, am i right?
But what about the sound? How does to QT could provide the sound if i only install DIVX 5.1.1 Is it because of the OS 10.1?

If i install MAC OS 10.3 and DIVX5.1.1, i'm all set?

Please correct me if i'm wrong

Thanks alot guys for helping me
