  1. Hi. I was wondering if anyone has anything positive or negative to say about the quality of DVD backups made with Nero Recode 2? I am paretically interested in backups made with some compression. TIA

I have tried burning to a hard disk folder with Nero Recode 2, and I can't say that it boasts an improvement of enough magnitude to justify the expense of buying it. Especially now that DL burners are hitting the market.

I have found it generally to be better than the current version of DVD Shrink, although probably no faster. What I do like is it's re-authoring, where I can replace clips with my own stills. If I want to split a disk into movie on one and bonus material on two, recode is the quickest way I have found to do it well, and keep all the existing menus etc. intact.

I know a lot of people don't like it, but the best rule of thumb is - if it works for you and you are happy, use it. At the moment, recode works for me.

    The problem is the price.

A lot of people already have Nero Ultra Edition. It's almost like you're getting Nero Recode for free. I have yet to try it for DVD transcoding. I mainly use it for Nero Digital.
