  1. Hi Guys,

Has anyone on here used Sound Forge 7? If so, can you tell me if it is possible to clear up excess background noise on an mpeg video. It is a home video, and there is alot of wind and other noises in the background that I would like to get rid of, or at least lower them so that te sound that I want to hear, is alot clearer.

Would it be easier to extract the audio from the mpeg?

If I did that then (I know this question is off topic) how would I extract just the video from the mpeg so I can rejoin them when the audio has been cleaned up?

    Thanks in advance.

to split your video and audio you need a demultiplexer, look in the tools section.

for cleaning audio you're quite limited. i'm guessing the sound you want is voices. all you can really do is use a filter to boost the frequency range that voices fall into and squish the rest of it. beyond that, a very time consuming process is to boost the sound by hand every time someone speaks.

  3. Thanks for the info.

I have TMPEGEnc plus 2.5, that can demultiplex the audio & video, am I right?

I thought I might have to do something along the lines of the method you mentioned. Would I be able to just lower the background noise and where appropriate, increase the volume on the audio I wnat on the mpeg.

Also, how difficult is it to do this? I know you said it is time consuming, which I imagined it to be anyway.

    Thanks for the help.

  4. its very difficult to lower the background noise sound is like a cake its made of a lot of ingredients but once its baked its very difficult to get the ingredients out meaning its difficult to get sound or noise as it is out of the recorded mpeg
    Welcome to the REAL world!

yeah, if you open tmpgenc, close the wizard, hit file - mpeg tools and there's a simple demultiplex option.

i'm not familiar with sound forge, so can't help using it. i use cooledit. all you'd need to do in that is first maximize your sound, then select portions you don't want and dip volume by 50%, with a small gradient at the beggining and end (so it drops smoothly rather than a sudden change)
