DD0401 is current model, I think.

And my generic 401 is working very well on DVD-R and CD-R.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  8. I have a DD0203(similar to DD0201) and it works good but I would get a DD0401.
Updating Optorite firmware can be tricky, make sure you disable DMA or use DOS.

  9. I have had the 201 for about 4or5 months now and have never had a single coaster....I read up a lot before I even started.

Updating the firmware has not been an issue through the desktop of WinXp either.

    Guess I am lucky.

Also, the Pioneer 106 drives are good.

I've had my DD0201 for a few months now and have had no troubles so far. Although I've only used minimum media on it. I've burned -R, +RW, CDR and CDRW as well as had success with HD burns.
I've also had no trouble with firmware updates either. I always use the windows version to update thru windows. Never had a problem updating.

But all in all I think there are better, faster drives out there for the same price or cheaper.

I have an Optorite DD0201 and have never had trouble updating the firmware. I would probably not buy this drive again because I had a hard time installing it and it does not have bitsetting for +R, but now that it is up and running, it works fine. It used to have a tendency to freeze windows but I solved that by switching it to master ide01 with no slave. Now burns Maxell DVD-R media at 4x with Nero 6 perfectly in 14 minutes. Make sure DMA is enabled to, it seemed to have gotten disabled with firmware upgrade.
