  1. the couple of movies i have the top and bottom black borders (can never remember if that is widescreen or full screen or what).. is there a way during processing to remove the black bars so i can use my whole tv... will i lose a lot quality if i do so?

  2. Remove them in Virtualdub.
May not lose quality, but the video will appear all stretched vertically.

To do so will involve chopping the left and right sides off of your movie. You won't be seeing the whole frame if the picture fills your TV. See the examples here.

You will lose a third of your picture. This has been discussed many times before. It is the same as hitting the zoom button on your dvd player.
