  1. My pioneer 106 is ext and connected via firewire. In device manager it is only listed under dvd/cds as the firewire not the pioneer unit. I tried some 'check you pioneer firmware version' and it says there's no drive.
    1) How do I get around this and,
    2) How do I know which upgrade is best to use?

    thanks,
    Jack

i did a flash on my 104, but connected to IDE. is it possible for you to connect up to IDE? If you're worried about opening up your computer etc you needn't be, it's quite easy and we can talk you through it.

as for which firmware is best, they should come with .txt files that let you know what they do, and say which is most current.

  3. i was able to find a prog that read my dvd is DVD-106RD firmware v 1.05.
From my reading I believe this is an acer and can be flashed to a pioneer and than upgraded? Know anything about this?
I will move it to an ide connection before flashing.

Lastly what benefits are there from flashing? more media types, faster speeds, more reliable (less coasters)?
    thanks,
    Jack

  5. you CAN'T...

have to connect it to a IDE port, then flash it. the best way is to use pure dos, not windows.

the benefits, is more reliable, faster ripping, bitsetting.....
