VCD Causes Unknow Fault in PowerDVD

[Ensign]

When trying to play a VCD useing PowerDVD everthing works fine until the menu page. Then, after enter on the keypad (or by other means) the chapter to be played, a "unkonwn fault as a unknow place pop-up windo appears. Leaving behind the followin error message. Any thoughts?

You answered your own question:

I had a problem with PowerDVD once... It was an ATI card that was to blame. Just try a different player if you want to watch VCD, there are many more excellent players out there.
BTW, you dont need to post the entire core dump. I dont think that too many people in this forum even know what a core dump is, let alone trace the source of the fault.

Try that when in doing so the PowerDVD website comes back and reports it can't do that due to a "error on line 108!"

mmmmm, I am still not sure that there are too many people in this forum that can trace the fault of a crash through a core dump, I think that most people wouldnt even recognise it has asm and think hex is a 6 sided shape. It is the fisrt core dump I have ever seen posted since when I joined in Feb 2001, but still... you never know...

Like I said before, just use another player. If PowerDVD crashes like that all the time, is it really worth the effort to try and find out why, when there are so many other equally as capable players that you can use?

Oh, I notice that you have an ATI card... is it a Rage 128 by any chance? That is what I have... PowerDVD used to disagree with it, so I just started using another player.

I don't know why the stack dump reports that my friends OS is Win95 when it is WinXP.

Maybe everything is Win95 and all the versions 98,98se,me, are just marketing ploys. Gee would Bill do something like that?

I did here back from PowerDVD. There answer is nothing is wrong because they reproduce the same error.

As for the ATI card problem it could be. I have read about such problems. I'll have to look into it. Especially since the same type of problem seems to happen also when playing a MPEG file using Media Player.

Plus, after downloading a copy, I think there are problems in PowerDVD itself. For when I tried to play the same VCD in my computer, PowerDVD, after showing the menu page for about 3 seconds went right to the second video on the disk. All the time calling it "Chapter 1"

Or could this be a problem with NERO 5.5 in making a menu?

That is why I use WinDVD It causes no problem at all.
