Currently Maryborough, Queensland. Australia's Utah, basically.

Honestly, when I wanted to go to places in Melbourne where there might be people competing for my dollar, I only had to travel a few minutes by train. Here, I've got to be driven at least 75 minutes. I can't stand it anymore.

That's interesting. Possibly your burner or DVD player has compatibility issues with Princo ?
My Pioneer D106 burn anything. All work well.

From the old time with CD-R, I like TDK.

    Why?

    Personal perference I think

Aren't they Princo's? expensive too. You can buy them for 80cents each in Melbourne.

I'm not buying anything anymore. I am getting ready to leave this town again, and I'll be dead before I come back.

    AFAIK Princo = Shintaro.

I started with Princo CD-Rs with my sony and then liteon burners and now with my Pioneer 106 I use princo DVD-Rs. I am using TDK whites for my CD-Rs - normally about $30 per 50 at target.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Is that a threat or a promise?

Shintaro = Princo A-Grade with no branding. I got my last 50 spindle for AUD$50 at Metro PC in Melbourne. They also had Ritek for AUD$69, but I don't know which ones.

As previously stated, there is no competition in this town. So the people either have to buy what the stores stock, or travel so far that any saving is wiped out many times over.

Nilfennasion, what your post really points out, is the severe lack of mail order services in AU. Is it the cost of postage, the lack of poulation outside the captial cities, or is there an opportunity out there?

Did you have any success with ebay?

Unfortunately, it's a combination of things. Lousy customer service is common in all parts of Australia, but in parts like this one, it is losing businesses enough money that many go out of business. Customer service is bad enough in this town that you could be forgiven for thinking some retailers didn't want your money.

The real problem is that there are some great stores out there (thediscshop.com, for instance), but they also sabotage the deal by making it a royal pain to get anything without driving hours to get to them.

No, I haven't tried ebay. Not sure why yet.

I think thats a myth - the A- Grade bit. I have bought Princo A grade
unmarked and Shintaro - they are both different. I also have my
1st two boxes of 10 Shintaro from JB HiFi that are dead - won't even
load up in a DVD rom or DVD burner.

Honestly, with all this "high grade" and "high definition" nonsense printed on recordable media, you have to look at who is applying these labels to the media. Big surprise, it is the manufacturers. So Princo say this or that disc is Grade A. Grade A trash is still trash.

On another note, DigiMedia are definitely on the black list.

I think you'd better get back to Melbourne before you go terminally "troppo".

Too late, tweedledee, I already have. And my experiences in Melbourne are certainly not going to make me recommend it to anyone, either. Another man who I have been discussing the burning of DVDs with has suggested that I would be happier leaving Australia and going somewhere like the UK. I am inclined to agree.

Still no idea what to do about media, either.

I've had a skin cancer dug out of the side of my face (it was big enough that one could put the front of their fist in the resulting hole) at the grand old age of 22. So it's a bit chilly there, you say?

I've looked at their catalogue several times now. While I like their prices for hardware, their range of discs does not really appeal to me. Their item descriptions are too vague.
