hi, i tried to use dvdshrink to back up a copy of A Bugs Life. I follwed the exact walk-through on this site http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=dvdcopy&name=shrink ... instead of backing up the whole dvd, i only backed up the featured film so i guess there was no need to compress it. i have Nero 6 installed so it automatically asked if i want to burn it to the dvd, which i did. the burn was completed and it wont play on my computer dvd-+R drive nor would it play on my standalone dvd player. I am using DVD+R medias ...should i try to use DVD-R? the media i am using is FRY"s GQ brand. Is there a step i am missing? I even thried the 123 COPYDVD software that i saw to the news...same result. success burn but wont play. PLease advise......thanks

what are you using to play the DVD on your computer ?
what folders are on the DVD ?
does the dvd have the right folders/files , video_ts and audio_ts folders and VOB,IFO,BUp files in the video_ts folder
can you play the output from DVDSHrink ? point your dvd player software to the video_ts folder created by dvdshrink -
yeah that fry's gq +r crap is about the worst media i have ever had the pleasure trying, now i say trying because using would be naked geekdum for me. yes, it's that bad.

actually im sorry....dont put the video and audio folder within a video ts folder. you only need to put the vob, bup..folders within the original VIDEO_TS folder. but before you even do that, update your firmware on that drive. it might let you use those crap discs. i know for a fact with that burners original firmware and that media will not work together. -

here's a link for it:

You can rip with DVD DECRYPTER in FILE MODE and then use DVD SHRINK, then NERO to burn. Or just use DVD SHRINK then NERO to burn. Sometimes ripping with DECRYPTER is done first when DVD SHRINK has error msgs.
Perhaps you need to try a different brand of media. GQ isn't the greatest to use. -
if the drive that made the disc cant even read anything on it, it is the media. i know that media. get dvdinfopro. and if that media says something like media001 it is pure CRAP. have you tried using the rw disc that came with the drive?

You also might want to try a less writing speed? I had to go from 8X down to 4X in Nero on some movies/discs! Worked for me!
you say Y,
I say Y not? -

best media you can buy off the store shelf is maxell 4x-r. as far as ordering off the internet taiyo yuden. there's other good quality media out there too, those are just my suggestions. nomorecoasters.com check that link out too.

hi again, just curious...at what compression percentage will the dvd consider good picture quality? I just ripped Lord of The Rings Return of The kings. Had to reauthor to get rid of all the other languages and menu cause the movie is so big. When it compress the whole movie it was at 49% compression rate. I just ripped the feature film and 2ch english and it compress at 63%. It came out looking 90% good. What percentage is considered too low of a compression?
