  1. A friend sent me a copy of the movie Stand By Me, and I want to burn it onto a cd-r since I don't have a dvd burner. It's about 600 mb, so there's enough space... but I can't seem to get it to work. I've browsed many of the threads at this forum too. Can anybody give me a list of steps on exactly how to burn this? I have Nero and Adaptec easy cd creator 4 i think. Thanks!!

Mystic Steve steps in..... You sure it's in VCD format? At 600mb it sounds like an AVI, unless it's on 2 discs of course. If it is on 2 discs then just copy the discs. If it's an AVI then you will have to convert it.

  3. The movie itself is just an avi file saved on the computer.. it's not on a disc. I tried converting the file to the vcd mode or whatever but now it's like 1147 mb, and that wouldn't fit on a 700 mb disc would it? I'm so confused, lol.

    Same here.

It sounds like you're talking about a downloaded movie...over here, thats a no-no.

  6. Regardless of source, encode the movie with TMPGEnc to SVCD, splitting it in two, and burn two disks.
Or split the avi into two and encode two disks.
Or encode at a severly low bitrate and burn on one disk.

  7. Heh, I'm not sure if it was downloaded or extracted from the dvd or not. Anyway, I think I have it converted now.. but I went in Nero to burn it and it just tells me the 700mb disc doesn't have enough space. The file is just slightly over 800 mb I think... and I've read in other posts here that it's still possible to burn files fine that exceed the limit. I just can't get it to work.

Hi, you may or may not be talking about WAREZ.

  8. These settings may or may not help after you have split the
video in half or lowered the bitrate and re-encoded.

  9. Yeah I tried the overburn thing. It didn't say anything about the length.. just the file size. How can I lower the bitrate?

How can I lower the bitrate?
By entering a lower value in the field for bit rate in TMPGEnc!
But keep in mind: VCD is 1150 kbps video, 224 kbps audio - nothing more, nothing less. That gets you approx 1 minute/10 MB.
I suggest you start with reading some of the many AVI to VCD guides found here left under Convert...
