First of all I use tmpg dvd author to author my films. What I want to do is create a video clip with sound before the main menu appears on the film. What are the best progs to do this and is there any sites where i can get free clips to create the video.
TIA

You have picked a medium-hard subject. Ulead makes a good editing studio for starting out. Adobe Premiere is an excellant product, but the learning curve is very steep (there are 600 page books published to teach Premiere). It's actually possible to do it all in TMPGEnc, if you don't have any transistions.
It's a LOT of work to put your "mark" on a DVD your backing up.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
depends on what you want for the intro movie.
for one movie, I took the captured avi file, loaded it in Virtualdub. I went through and cut it down to snips of scenes I liked, totalling 30 seconds. I added a 30 second wav file cut from the score of the film, and exported this as a new .avi file.
encoded it in TMPG, dropped in in my authoring software. easy.
then again, for another intro clip for a Laserdisc-to-dvd transfer of the Beastie Boys' "Skills to Pay the Bills", I took 30 seconds each of 10 of the videos in the collection, arranged them in Vegas in 2 strips of 5, each taking 1/4 of the height of the screen. Using the track motion controls, I set one moving right to left, the other moving left to right, and set up the titles to fade in in-between the strips.
add 30 seconds of "So What'cha Want?" as the soundtrack, export to MPG, drop into the authoring program.
It can be as simple or as complex as you're willing to work for.- housepig
