    Are there any New Zealanders viewing this forum who have successfully coverted VHS (PAL format) to DVD?

    I have downloaded, printed and read many of the FAQ's and "How to" articles, but no matter what I do, everything turns to custard

    A brick to the head may help

    I'm using a WinFast TV 2000 XP Expert Tuner/Video card.

    Describe your work process. At what point do your efforts fail? It's kind of hard to diagnose the problem when so little information is given.

  4. Nero 6 has format selections for every TV style on the planet!! I use NTSC but there is a HUGE list of other types under it. If you have captured TV Nero will encode it for you.
    I use it with a PIKA ONE 8X dual DVD. Brag: Just burnt a full DVD in under 12 minutes onto Datawrite Classec DVD+R 8X. See

    They cost less than 68 pence each for 25 tubes here;

    NZ TV uses NICAM for the HiFi Stereo, but apart from that NZ uses bog standard PAL. The only difference in a NZ VCR is that it supports receiving NICAM.

    As you are outputting from the VHS tape, it is 100% bog standard PAL.

    Follow the guides on this site.

  6. A) What platform

    B) How much are you converting.

    If you have a lot of media a stand alone DVD Recorder is probably best.

    Otherwise you need a decent capture card, a hell of a lot of HD space and a lot of time.

    I've personally been doing a lot of this under Linux quite easily, but it wouldn't suit the average windows user.
