  1. Software Used: DVDCopy 2
    DVD-R's: Memorex 4x
    DVD +/- R/RW Drive: Digital Research 8x

I've been using DVDXCopy successfully and have recently decided to try DVDCopy 2. I'm having weird issues with it not recognizing my DVD-RW drive as a destination drive. Here are the various results:

    1. Blank DVD in drive before clicking to select a destination - It lists the drive as a CD drive and does not allow me to select it.
    2. No DVD in drive before clicking to select a destination - It lists the drive as a DVD-RW drive then when I select it it says to insert disc. When I insert a disc the message to insert the disc does not go away. I hit cancel on that message and the destination list now changed the drive type back from DVD-RW to CD.

I have no problems using DVDXCopy; or using DVDCopy 2 to convert files and save them on HD, then burn using something like Nero. I want to be able to burn directly from DVDCopy 2 to a blank DVD while or directly after it converts the files but I'm having the drive recognition problems which prevent this.

Could be a software conflict between DVDXCOPY, & DVDCOPY2. DVDXCOPY is known for software and hardware conflicts. Try uninstalling DVDXCOPY and see what happens. Use DVD SHRINK to back up your dvds and burn with NERO. DVD SHRINK is a free program.

  3. This is not related to DVDXCopy - I was just mentioning that so people know my DVD burner does work, just not with DVDCopy 2 the way I want.

I uninstalled DVDXCopy and it does the same thing (probs w/DVDCopy 2). My friend just bought the exact same Digital Research burner except his is 4x and he only installed DVD Copy 2 and it's doing the same thing where it thinks the DVD burner is a CD drive....

Has anyone had this issue or know how I can designate maybe in Windows that a drive that does both cd and dvd burning is just a DVD burner? Maybe this would fix it.

It would be helpful if you fill out your computer specs. like what operating system you're using. Lots of variables in dvd burning, authoring, etc. How is the drive physically set up in your pc? Is DMA enabled on the drive?

You mentioned you want to be able to burn directly from DVDCOPY2 but it doesn't allow you to. You said you're able to burn with NERO & use DVDXCOPY. This is why I said it could be a software problem. I have a LITEON 411S in one of my other pc's and it shows up in device manager as CD. But I'm able to select it with burning programs NERO, IMG TOOL BURN, & DVD DECRYPTER.

  5. I guess the problem is that I'm trying to burn directly from DVDCopy 2, hence why I was trying to select the dvd drive as the destination.

An article that is posted on this very site (actually a link to another site but listed in the dvd backup section on this site) instructs that this is possible.

    https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=562&howtoselect=6;30#562

    links to

    http://www.dvdrom-guide.com/forums/showthread.php?t=777

Which says you can select your DVD burner as the destination and DVD Copy 2 will burn directly to the DVD from the files on your HD after it converts/compresses them.

  6. Ah nm I misread your post. When you said "it doesn't allow you to" I didn't realize you were requoting the problem I had, I thought you were saying that DVDCopy 2 does not allow you to burn directly (as in the software is not programmed to do this).
