My Pioneer DVR 106 does not work anymore

I had got Pioneer DVR 106 four months ago and it was working alright. I was able to write CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R without any problem. I was using MOSERBAER DVD-R 2X media and the only problem I used to face was that my writer could only write at 1X speed. I decided to change the media and tried Sony DVD-R 4X media and I started facing problems:
1. CD s are not being recognized in the DVR-106 drive.
2. I am unable to write CD-R/DVD-R.
The eject function both on the drive and by software is working. The drive when connected with the PC for the first time is easily identified and drivers are installed automatically by WinXP PRo.
I dont know what to do. I tried to clean the lens with a lens cleaner CD but that did not solve my problem. do you think the drive has got spoiled?

It is unlikely that changing the DVD-r type you burn with to Sony DVD-R 4x speed has caused the problem. It may be that there is something wrong with your drive. Have you changed the firmware on the DVD writer? Have you changed your DVD burning software in any way?

If the answer is no to te above, you may want to try:

1) Ensuring that the DMA for the Pioneer writer is "on"
2) Try removing your DVD drive, booting up your computer without the writer, power down, re-install the writer to refresh/reload the ATAPI/ASPI settings/drivers.
3) Check the cable that connects from your DVD writer to the computers motherboard. If it is a UDMA 40 type, try to replace this with a UDMA 60/100 (allows for greater data transfer and can increase burn speed, or resolve issues in comms between motherboard and writer) I did this with my Pioneer 107. I can now burn almost any disc at true 8x speed with no write issues. I used to have mega isues before this.

You need to provide a bit more info for us to try and help, e.g., what burning software, firmware, any changes you have made etc.

make sure your drive is in DMA mode. sometimes in XP the drive will go into PIO mode causing slow burning. here's a link on how to set to DMA mode in XP:

try deleting the IDE that your burner is connected to, then reboot and let it install on it's own. as suggested check to make sure your jumper settings are correct on each drive, master and slave.
