If your camera has pass through, you can plug in your TV's output into your camera and on to your computer's fire wire card.

If your TV does not have video out, then your have to have your VCR provide the video output.

The answer is as posted above,... if you have a Digital Camcorder with Pass through,... you can convert just about anything to DV. I have Direct TV with S-video output and my Camcorder has S-video input and firewire output to my PC. I can capture (transfer) high quality TV signals of any program on Direct TV, or even good quality Digital signals on Cable to my PC. Then I edit out the commercials and make a DVD. I also just "VCR Tape" the program and then feed it to my PC when I get the time. The quality is as good as the orginal Signal,... that is if you have a good VCR. Anyway, when I play back the produced DVD to my TV, I can't see any difference in the quality from the original broadcast.
Remember,... it will never be as good as a DVD that you buy or rent. IF you want the best, then rent the DVD and rip it and make your own copy.

It all starts with the Digital Camcorder,.. and a good Non-Linear Editing program. I use Ulead VideoStudio 7.0
"Technology",...It's what keeps us all moving forward.
