I recorded some Game footage using Fraps 2.1x (registered) which generates Uncompressed AVI files.

GSpot was having a tough time telling me what CODEC I need to play them. On one computer, they play fine. But on this one, they won't. I hear audio, but no video.

I'm not sure which codec I need to playback uncompressed AVI files.

    Any tips/help?

Did you try rendering it in G-spot? Virtualdub might be able to tell you what 4cc it uses. Go to file>file information. By the way, cool avatar.

    Code:
DirectShow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the error or warning is:

0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format.

The following combination of filters were used:

     {C:\Temp\game 2004-05-16 19-48-21-15.avi} (Audio Source)
     {AVI Splitter} (Audio Splitter)
     {Default DirectSound Device} (Audio Renderer)
    4CC: FPS1/

GSpot was unable to find a suitable codec installed, indicating that this media file not likely playable on this O/S at this time. To be able to play this media file, attempt to locate a suitable codec based on the Format and 4CC given above. Install the codec and then test again with GSpot after the codec has been installed.

But what's wierd is that it will play on my other 2 computers. This computer is actually my Digital Video system, so this is baffling.

It's umcompressed AVI made by Fraps (http://www.fraps.com).

Yeah; and I can't even get Virtual Dub to open it.
The file(s) are fine. My other PC can open them up across the network.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but you have Fraps installed on the computer in question, right?

How embarassing, yet so very simple.

Being an uncompressed AVI stream, I didn't realize I would need to have that program installed; nor did I even think to assume that it installed a video codec.

    THANK YOU ALL!!

An easy mistake to make. The problem is that you confused the word "uncompressed" with "lossless". If the avi was truly uncompressed there would not be a need for a codec at all and the file size would be ridiculously huge. Codec is short for compressor-decompressor.

    Oh, I know.
A 2 minute AVI created with fraps is over 700MB.

So, yeah. I didn't think that ANY compressing was going on!!

Believe it or not, there was. I decompressed a 512x384 one minute clip and it was 829mb.
