Also with TMPGEnc you should use a PCM WAV file as your audio source. TMPGEnc often has trouble re-encoding compressed audio. To make a wav file open your avi with Virtualdub, go to the audio menu and select "full processing mode", then go to the file menu and select "save wav".

Duh me @virtualdub! I had wondered how to extract audio so I could use it with TMPGE. Now I know. Next Duh me question is where is their a good guide to use for virtualdub. I tried looking at the guides but couldn't find one that explains the basics of virtualdub. Most of the guides had virtualdub with other software to use to convert. My next DUH question is if the audio is extracted using virtual dub. How is the video extracted to be used in TMPGE? I would appreciate any help and comments. Thanks in advance!

You can do 1 of 2 things. You can use the original source for the video or you can frameserve it from Vdub. The reason is that TMpgenc has some problems with VBR audio in avi's and doesn't support AC3 but that doesn't affect the video most times. So once you have the audio straight you shouldn't have any audio synch problems.

That guide explains how to extract the audio and save it as a wav.

Then you go to TMPGenc , browse in the usual way for your video
That will open the video and the original AVI audio
Then click browse next to the audio file and find the wav you saved.
Thats it , just do the rest as normal.

I dont even use tmpgenc for audio,if its going to be for dvd just encode the wav into ac3 or mp2 with either ffmpeg or besweet,If it going to be used for svcd then mux with bbmeg, much better than tmpgenc muxing for mpg2.If the dvd authoring program required a muxed file then bbmpeg will mux ac3 with the m2v file.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.
