I'm trying to set up a DVR75 with a cable box and a separate DVD player.
DVDR75 has two scart outputs, Ext 1 and Ext 2. Manual says ext 1 goes directly to TV.
My Telewest cable box has two scart sockets, one that says VCR and one that says TV. I connected the one that says TV to DVDR75 Ext 2.
Is this right? Do I no longer need to connect my cable box directly to my TV as before?
My TV has two scart inputs. One is now occupied by the DVDR75 and the second connects to my normal DVD player. However, I'd like to make copies of DVDs so I assume that I have to connect DVD player to recorder. If I do, does DVD player still need to be connected directly to TV?
I'm feeling like an idiot here and this horrible manual doesn't help at all. Can someone please tell me the optimal setup for my system.
Thanks
Gert

If your TV is able to put the video signal of Scart2 into Scart1, as the DVDR75 also does, the device that you connect to EXT2 in the DVDR75 should be the one from which you want to make recordings with your TV set shut down.
When the DVDR75 is powered off, it will connect automatically EXT2 to EXT1, and when powered on you may use the TV/DVD key to switch the signal between EXT2 and whatever you are reading in the DVDR75, so another option for your setup is to connent to EXT2 in DVDR75 the machine whose signal you want to have interrupted when you power on the DVDR75. -
Hmm...all that is still a bit confusing to me.
I think I have it working however, as connected in my first post. What I find strange is the lack of additional inputs on back of DVDR75. To connect my DVD player (or a VCR), I'll need to disconnect my cable box scart, or else connect to a front input, which is not really a permanent solution. I wanted to have it set up so that the DVD was connected at all times.
I guess my other option would be to put a scart switcher box before EX2 and, into that, connect my cable box and DVD player. Has anyone else done this?
Thanks again. -
Yes almost.
I have a DVDR75 , Sky Digital , Video and DVD . I can record anything to tape or DVD I'll try and explain.
I use a video with a TV/Video button on it , a bit like the TV/DVD switch on the 75. And use the video to select the DVD Player.
Ill start at the TV
Scart lead from EXT1 on TV to EXT1 on DVDR75
Scart lead from EXT2 on DVDR75 to TV socket on SKY digital
Scart Lead from VCR Socket on Sky Digital to EXT1 on Video
Scart Lead from EXT2 on Video to DVD Player.
That's it for the set up.
Oh I forgot about aeriel wires
Aeriel from house into Sky digital then to video then to 75 then to TV.
This set up also leaves one of the TV scart sockets free for PS2 or whatever.
I have the 75 set on EXT2 which I use to record Sky Digital.
If I want to record skty to tape I put the video on to EXT1 , I could record to both at the same time.
I can obviously watch a DVD on the 75. However if I want to watch a DVD on the Player What I do is this . Put the video to EXT2 and press the TV/Video switch on the video remote. I can at this point record from Player to 75.
I can record from Player to video at this point as well if I wanted to.
If I want to record from VHS to DVD I simply play the tape it automatically switches through the sky box and I can record on EXT2 on the 75
I must also point out that my DVD player is macro free as well as region free so I don't have any macrovision problems.
Basically what I am trying to say is that with this setup I can record anything to anything , ie DVD2DVD , VHS2DVD , DVD2VHS , SKY2DVD , SKY2VHS and of course all the terestrial stations on either DVD or VHS.
It is a set up which works extremely well and I hope it makes sense to you.
It is as cheap if you havent got a video to get one instead of a scart switching box as basically that is what I use mine as. Just make sure you have a video with 2 scart sockets and a TV/Video switch on the remote.
Oh yes and eveything is done with remotes of course , no manual switching.
One final thought , I have the sound going to my hi-fi to get Pro-logic and it is difficult to find out which point to take the audio from.
I have found a cure for this . I bought a cheap scart switching box for under £10 which has audio out sockets on it. I removed the scart lead from my TV EXT1 socket plugged it into the scart box then a scart lead from the scart box back into EXT1 on the TV. I don't have anything else plugged in to the extra sockets on it but they are there if ever I need extra sockets in the future.
Then took a pair of phono leads from the audio out sockets to my hi-fi.
Now whatever is on the screen of the TV is the sound I have piped to the HI-Fi.
I hope this makes some kind of sense to you .
This is one time when the RTFM (read the f***ing manual) rule doesn't apply. -
Thanks a lot for that. It was really helpful.
Unfortunately, I don't have room in my TV cabinet for a VCR so will have to go for the scart box.
I have a Pioneer DV 535 player that I was almost sure had Macrovision disabled. However, I'm still getting the Copy Protected message. Did you have to do anything else to get that to work?
Thanks.
