  1. I'm having a problem with video capturing that I just can't figure out. When capturing I get frames that seem to be part of one frame and part of another, like they're torn or split. This is really hard to explain so instead I made some example clips:

    http://www.geocities.com/slarnox/encoding/image1.jpg
    http://www.geocities.com/slarnox/encoding/clip1.avi

This shouldn't be a resource problem since I definitely have a fast enough computer and HD:

    Athalon 900
    7gig partition for encoding
    voodoo 3500 tv agp
    256meg ram
    capture using vdub

I've tried all the basics. Different codecs: tried capturing using Huffyuv, MJPEG, Divx. Tried different settings, bitrate, etc. Nothing else running. Capturing from different sources, vcr, direct cable. This isn't associated with dropped frames either. I've read some poor reviews on the voodoo 3500 saying that it's lousy at capturing but have heard from other people that have said theirs has worked fine. So, please HELP!

  2. OK, this is where the TBC comes in. The video is of so poor quality that the horizontal and vertical sync signals can not be correctly detected by the capture card. So, it will capture parts of some lines and fields. If you don't have a better copy, or can try another VCR or another capture card, then only a TBC can clean it up. However, a TBC is expensive. The cheapest is around $300 for a single stand-alone TBC. I have tried a VCD with a built-in TBC, but it did not fix the vertical sync. I had to get a full frame TBC to fix the video before capture.
