Quicktime to MPEG2

I'm trying to convert Quicktime to MPEG2

I have TMPGenc 2.5 ...
...tried to use the QT plugin from http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/4942/svcd.html

...it doesn't work.

Anyone know of another way to do it?


If you look at the comments in the tools section for this plugin, one guy says it works with TMPGenc 2.5 the other guy says it doesn't work.
(The quicktime clips came from my Canon A60 Still camera which takes short quicktime video clips )

Try Canopus Procoder or Mainconcept MPEG Encoder. Make sure you have a current installation of Quicktime too.

Don't have either one and didn't want to pay $60 for a simple task like this. Any other ideas ? Thanks for the post, though.

The freeware utility Rad Video Tools can convert from Quicktime to AVI.
You'll find it here http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

Also the trialware EO Video can convert from Quicktime to AVI or MPEG1.

Installed Rad Video Tools and followed the guide on this site. It appears to do the conversion but when I try to view the converted file it's still not right (plays back at same FPS as orig - even if I try to change the FPS).

I've always had the VFAPI codec installed before i put QTReader.vfp in the TMPGEnc folder. Is it necessary if the plugin is in the same directory as the application?

Did you install VFAPI codec?

Well that didn't work either...
...looks like quicktime pro is the only way to go here ...right? $29.95

You might still have a shot converting the mov with TMPGEnc if you install 3ivx.

Don't know if it is the easiest way, but I used Virtual Dub (or one of the mods, I can't remember) to join several A70 movie clips and convert to AVI. Then I used TMPEGenc to convert to SVCD. I can't tell you the exact steps because I don't remember, but it did work.
