I just bought a Canon A60 Digital camera.

This isn't a Digital Video Camera - It's a Digital Still camera that can take short movie clips.

    PROBLEM:
When I upload these clips to my computer, I can view them fine in Apple Quicktime but in any other viewer they play back at high speed (sounds like the "chipmunks"). I want to convert these small clips to Mpeg2 but most of my standard apps that I use for making DVD's won't read them in. The file types are ".avi" but they don't seem to be standard avi files.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

  2. Best bet it Tmpge with the QTime plugin. Check the tool section for both. You may need to rename the extension of the file to .mov or .qt. Some times that helps. But give the Tmpeg-QT plugin first.

My Olympus 2020 also produces QT videos. And thats how I convert it.

    Good luck!

I have converted them with Virtualdub from my Canon camera. Seems like the framerate is something like 15FPS and the resolution is pretty low. Check the video with Gspot or AVIcodec. You should be able to convert them to a different resolution and framerate, but quality will be poor. Never needed Quicktime. If Virtualdub will open them, you should be able to convert. them.

VirtualDub opens the file but then if I try to do anything with it I get a message:

"VideoSourceAVI error: The source image format is not acceptable. (error code -2) "

Your AVI for the Canon A60 is a MJPEG encoded file. I have never heard of them playing fast, but if you install an MJPEG codex then all should be well with all programs. Try http://www.mainconcept.com/downloads.shtml MJPEG demo, you should not have to pay for it just to decode.

MemoriesOnTV.com will read them without having to load a codex.
