I'm afraid your problem is very common. Freakin' Sony has some very nice camcorders but the best computers able to actually recognize them are Sony Vaios unfortunately.

I am not familiar with Image mixer. But when you bought your camcorder, there should have been an editing software that should also capture your video. Have you tried that.

Otherwise, you can look on the left and use one of the free capture software.

I assume that you are capture with a firewire card (IEEE1394), which is in fact a copy of the bits from the camcorder to the PC.

Hec54, sonys work on all computers I have seen so far.

  4. I don't believe that's the least bit accurate (i.e. nothing to do with whether the PC is a Vaio). Rather, the problem, more likely than not, has something to do with that ImageMixer software.

I have a TRV22 and both of my PCs "recognized" my camcorder the very first time I connect it (via firewire) and I haven't experienced any anomalies in that regard ever since.

Take the subtle hint up there in the parentheses and you should have no problem capturing with your TRV19.

We probably assume everyone uses firewire but, apparently, that's not the case. To the best of my knowledge, capturing with the ImageMixer software is strictly a USB proposition.

  7. The likelihood of getting USB to work very well for your purposes is virtually nil and the ImageMixer software is pretty much garbage.

Hopefully, you have a spare PCI slot and a few extra bucks left to buy a firewire card and cable. Try the links below (cheap firewire card/cable/sw combos) or visit your local Circuit City, Best Buy, CompUSA, or similar retailer:

I have the same camera model! It captures just fine for me. But I use a firewire instead of the usb that came with the camera. So far I have success capturing with Premiere, Scenalizer, WinDV and Windows Movie Maker. My firewire port is on my soundblaster sound card. Most people would recommend a dedicated capture card like Canopus or Matrox but anything will do really.

It is VERY accurate with USB.

Apparently NOT all computers via USB.

Okay, I stand corrected. Regardless, the resolution here is to go with firewire (as opposed to buying a Vaio for the sole purpose of capturing via USB).

The USB is supposed to be used to transfer pictures not audio. Do as Tag says, unless you have one already, go buy a firewire card.

  12. Sony makes some great products, but they try to make every product proprietary. They want to make sure that you have to fill your house with Sony products before any of them will work.

If your Sony is anything like my Canon ZR-70, USB will only transfer video. To get video and audio both, you have to use firewire.

(I ain't no expert) I tried to do a half hearted search on your cam, and didn't get much. I have a TRV 330 cam myself and would like to offer this information. Unless I am missing something the USB connection is for downloading photos from the memory stick. The IEEE 1394 (Firewire for Apple or I-Link for Sony) is for transfering the video to your PC (Any make or model that meets the requirments) If you dont have a IEEE1394 port on your PC you can get one fairly cheap just about anywhere. You can even get a combo USB/1394 card if your system is full or you so desire. You can even get cards bundled with some fair video software if you look around just a bit. Now if you are currently getting video thru USB but no sound maybe all you need is a wire for audio from the cam to PC? I have read about others using various USB devices for video, but I don't have any experience with this. I think that 1394 is the preferred method and it works for me.
I saw something about a capture card in your specs. I am not familar with all the possible configurations but even without a 1394 or USB connection you may be able to get video into your PC. Depending on the inputs on your capture card. Maybe using the RCA jacks or s-video. Mess around a little and get back to us with your results. GOOD LUCK

Now that you can get video into your PC I bet you are going to face all kinds of challenges. Like editing and converting and so on and so on and... Any how for what it is worth I do recomend a fire wire card for cam to PC transfer. Take a little time and shop around is my advice. You can get fully loaded deals or ultra cheap deals either way find something that fits your needs or wants or budget. The thing about cam to PC via firewire is that it is pretty much a perfect transfer and is ready for the easiest editing. Which brings us to what your going to do to the video after you first get it into the PC. Editing. Whether it is just cutting out unwanted scenes from home movies to adding effects for feature movies it will need editing. Which brings us back to looking for a firewire card that has at least some kind of software bundled with it. It can be a long slow process learning this video thing. It takes time, patience, will and money! Read all you can on the matter and keep us posted on your progress. Good luck
