  1. My setup: 1.7 Ghz P4, 256mb RDRAM, 60 gb 7200 rpm hd, winfast tv2000 xp deluxe, santa cruz soundcard, geforce3 64 mb video card

I have some old VHS tapes that I would like to transfer to DVD. I have successfully hooked my VCR to my computer with an RCA cable from the video out port on my VCR to the video input on the Winfast card (vcr does not have s-video out).

Using the Winfast software, I can view the video from my VCR on my computer without a problem.

The problem lies in the audio. Right now I have an RCA cable in the audio out port on the VCR, but I am unsure where to put this in my computer. The Winfast card has an audio in, but it is not for an RCA cable. It is for a headphone style connector.

My Santa Cruz sound card has what they call a "versa" connection and it does accept an RCA cable, but no sound comes out when I attahc it to my VCR.

Where do I connect the audio?

Thank you very much. I could not find this info in any guides.

  2. UPDATE: The "versa" connection on my sounds card uses a y-adaptor that has two rca inputs that are converted into a headphone style jack that goes into the computer. I plugged this converter into the Winfast card and I now get audio from my vcr, but only out of one speaker. Is this ok?

  3. one more update: I can now get the audio to come out both speakers, but only if I change the speaker setting to prologic. Dolby Digital will only put the audio to one speaker.

I'm just a beginner when it comes to this stuff. Please help.

The connector is meant for a STEREO VCR

Basically you have a plug that connects to the LEFT/RIGHT stereo out jacks of the VCR then the other end is a stereo mini-plug (headphone type plug) that goes into the sound card.

Do you have a mono VCR?

If so then you will need a Y-adapter for mono (from VCR) to stereo (for the other adapter you already have).

  5. It must be mono because there is just audio out and audio in on the back of the VCR and it is just one jack for each. there are not seperate jacks from left/right

    Thanks

    Yes that would be MONO

You need that mono to stereo Y-adapter.

This setup worked for me on a mono hi-8 cam... I had to purchase the Y jack you refer to that came with your card. I ran a rca wire from the red out jack on the cam to the red in jack on the Y jack on the soundcard. I didn't connect anything to the other in jack.

Set my sound capture settings to mono..... When previewing while capturing it would only play in one speaker, but after capturing it should play in both speakers.
