  1. I've just installed Nero Express Suite 6 which includes NeroVision Express authoring software. The catch is that the SE version of NeroVision does not include an MPEG2 codec for DVD/SVCD work.

I already have a number of programs with MPEG2 codecs - Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2, Liquid Edition 5.5, NeoDVD - and wondered if there's a way I can use the MPEG2 codecs from those programs with the crippled version of NeroVision Express?

If so, can someone explain how this is done?

    Thanks,

Typically, what you need installed is a s/w DVD player, like PowerDVD or something. This one installs MPEG2 playback codecs which are used by other programs.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  3. Thanks for that but I already have PowerDVD installed.

I presume programs like PowerDVD just need to decode MPEG2. What I want is to be able to encode to DVD or SVCD with NeroVision Express 2 SE using one of my other existing MPEG2 codecs. As I explained the SE version of NeroVision Express does not come with an MPEG2 codec. Nero offers one for sale separately. But I wondered if I can use one of the MPEG2 codecs I already have installed.

I'm just not technical enough to be any more specific.

    Thanks,

I think the answer is no, you can't use other MPEG2 encoders with Nerovision Express. Even if you could, you would still only be able to author VCDs without the DVD-Video Plug-in.

  5. Nero won't allow it. It's their way of getting you to buy their mpeg2 codec, just for using in NVE.
FYI, Sony SoundForge does the same thing, which really pisses me off, makes it useless for editing/saving mp* audio.
