  1. I'm encoding a BMP to an M2V and was told that TMPGEnc isn't the best at doing this, and I noticed that from the quality. What are some other encoders that are better with still image encoding? I tried MainConept MPEG Encoder but it causes a program error when trying to encode a BMP to an M2V. Any suggestions?

I don't know if the encoding engine is better per se, but have you considered using Memories On TV? It definitely gives you a lot more options than a dedicated mpeg encoder.

Drop into Premiere, and then export to Procoder. Use high bitrate to avoid movements. This is by far the most robust way to do it.

TMPGENC will look fine too, just tick the box to to "NO MOTION SEARCH" under the QUANTIZE tab. It should look great.

  4. I've done it in Premiere Pro with the MainConcept encoder, but the video it generates isn't 'compatible' when used with DVD menus (or something), because when I remux it with the VOB and edit it with MenuEdit, the video doesn't even appear, only the buttons. When I encode the still image with TMPGENC, it's fine.

  5. The outputted M2V in TMPGENC isn't the best, as I can still see a bit of blurriness around edges that I don't like. This is at the highest bitrate possible, with the No Motion Search checked.

Is there any other standalone MPEG encoders out there that would do a better job? I was told that TMPGENC isn't good for still images.

  6. Also, MemoriesonTV doesn't do what I want - I need a still image to M2V so I can remux it for the DVD menu. I love MemoriesOnTV, but this isn't what I need. Thanks though

I have tried VCDEasy to create still pictures for VCD and SVCD (the stills use 704x576 PAL resolution or 704x480 NTSC resolution). There is a still picture encoder included in VCDEasy, I think its based on mjpeg tools. Maybe you can encode your pictures with VCDEasy and use the produced mpg files?
