  1. Friend of mine tried to make a backup of a backup by copying the video folder to his hard drive but got Cylic Redundancy Error message and it wouldnt copy. He tried it on another computer and got the same message. He assumed something was wrong with the disc. Next day went back to same computer and did same thing and it copied with no problem. Any idea why that might have happened?

  2. did he try to restart the computer and then make the backup??

very often windows likes to be a pain in the ass... sometimes just restarting can proove to solve the problem

  3. yes that was the 1st thing he tried. He wasnt trying to make a backup, but rather only copy from DVD to Hard Drive thru explorer.

It could have been dust on the disk that was gone the next day - the most likely if this happened on two different computers.

Could have been a bit of dust that was there one day, gone the next...

Could have been that he had been runnig his computer and DVD Drive for a few hours and the heat meant that the laser couldn't read the disc properly...

Could have been an unexplainable coincidence (insert X-Files music here)...

If I were you, I wouldn't worry about why this happened...just be happy it worked out in the end.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I had exactly the same prob. It got to 98 or 99%, then the error "cyclic redundancy error" popped up. I tried for 2 hours and was not going to let this problem get in my way. For some unknown reason, the fourth time I tried, it worked. I noticed the dvd I was backing up was slightly scratched near the outer part. To this day, I don't know what it was??? You are not alone.
    you say Y,
    I say Y not?
