  1. Pioneer DVD-R DVR-106D
    Latest Firmware - 1.07

I can record DVDs. Windows XP shows the drive in Explorer as "CD Drive". If I select properties, it shows the Pioneer DVD-RW 106D correctly.

When using DVDShrink, it does not see the drive at all. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drive but I get the same results.

Nero also burns the DVDs but reports the drive as "CD-R".

How can I get my PC to see the drive as a DVD-RW like it used to under Win2k?

  3. windows update may solve ur problem, it sounds similar to a few problems I have had in the past with the aspi and win xp...

if windows update doesn't fix it, try using an aspi manager... you can get one from http://www.communica.com/downloads.html (i havn't used it but it comes highly reccommended).

    Hope this helps!

I don't think it has anything to do with ASPI. Have you tried checking to see if your burner is DMA enabled? Here's a link on how to check DMA mode & how to set to DMA: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=9668

  5. I tried to install the ASPI download but it failed with an error code of -42.

    DMA is enabled.

    Any other ideas?

Download ASPI from this site: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.jsp?sess=no&language=Engli...dkey=ASPI-4.70

If the above one doesn't work then download forced ASPI from here:
    http://www.doom9.org
go to downloads section & you'll see the FORCED ASPI 1.7
