This is perplexing. When I open an OGM, choose full processing of the audio, and choose LAME MP3 output, then save out the avi, the resulting avi has no audio.

Yet, I *can* save an uncompressed WAV (huge)....and of course the WAV can be converted to MP3.

Why can't VDubMod do this directly? All I want to do is convert the OGM to an AVI with MP3 audio. Is there a way to convert the audio without having to first uncompress to PCM WAV?

  2. Do you have "Vorbis OGG ACM Codec" installed or just the "OggDS filters"? VirtualDub doesn't use Direct Show filters.

  3. I've never used "Vorbis OGG ACM Codec". Is it Encode only, or Encode / Decode?

Well, no, it is not a codec problem.

Here is the scenario - I just posted this in the VDubMod forum also:

    ************************************************** ***********
If i load an ogm, choose direct stream copy for video, full processing for audio with LAME MP3 compression, then save avi, the result has no audio.

However, if i select the ogg audio in the stream list, then choose "save wav", then "add" the audio file I just saved (i.e., the LAME MP3 conversion), then disable the original ogg audio, then save avi, the result is as desired - an avi with mp3 audio!

Now, why does VDubMod force me to do things in such a roundabout way? Surely this is a bug.

au7usa, you'll notice that my workaround does allow me to create an avi with mp3 audio without first expanding to wav...but it is still strangely unstraightforward...

  5. Are you using the latest version of VirtualDubMod?

On the VDubMod FAQ page there is listing for exactly this problem but only shows it for version 1.4.x not 1.5.x.

My guess is (and its only a guess) that the VirtualDubMod team don't yet have faith in the "Vorbis OGG ACM Codec", and have left out support for encode / decode. Everyone else i've noticed use VDubMod only for Mux / Demux of OGM. I see quite a few listings that advocate the use of OggDrop.

There might be a compatibility problem with Vorbis ACM Codec as stated:
