Hi there! I'm hoping that one of you can help me out with this frustrating problem. A week ago I purchased a LiteOn LDW 411s DVD writer. I authored three DVDs using Ulead DVD workshop and burned them at 4x on generic dvd-r disks. They appeared to play fine on my player at first. When it neared the end of the disks however it would start to freeze up. This happened on all three disks with different movies. I do not know what to do. Could this be a defective writer or could it be the disks that I used? What about the software? Thanks a lot in advance. Hope someone can help me.

Sounds like a media problem. Read Lordsmurf's great site on media and look at the part about "dye spread":

I took a look at that site and read the part on dye spread. I then took a look at the burned side of all three disks and voila! I found a lot of either blemishes or signs of bad dye spread.
Looks like I'l have to pay for branded disks if I want this to work. The disks I used cost me 80 cents a piece and I bought $50 worth. ARGH!
Thanks a lot for your help, Capmaster. -
