  1. Hi,

I recently spent a lot of time d/l all the episodes of a TV series.

So I converted them onto a DVD and then deleted the MPEGs.

The First DVD was fine, but the second DVD I made with another 7 Episodes doesn't work as I messed it up, now I need to extract the Episodes and covert each of them into MPEGs.

    Thanks in advance

There's no need to mention the name of your source files. I would edit that out of your post before the warez police come after you.

What makes you think that the problem will be fixed if you convert to mpeg?

Can you describe how you feel you screwed up the disc? I think you might be better off just re-encoding the avi's.

  5. well I had already made the first DVD with the 1st 7 eps and the files were in there VIDEO_TS folder, then I created another another 7 eps on DVD but the files for that went into the same folder and they must have replaced the exsisting VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO.IFO AND VIDEO_TS VOB FILE.

So when I went to watch it it couldn't get to the menu just kept hanging.

I don't have the original AVI/MPEG as I deleted them after making the DVD (stupid i know should have checked first).

Also one of the eps on the first DVD is out of synch, so if i can extract them I could fix this file as well.

Worth a shot I suppose. Try using DVD Decrypter to rip the VOB's to your hard drive in file mode. It might be best to rip them all to one VOB. Go to Tools>Settings>File Mode>File Splitting=none. Then use Womble MPEG VCR to split the VOB up into seperate episodes. Use the demultiplexer to demux the bad sync ep into seperate video and audio streams, then use the multiplexer to correct the A/V sync. Then re-author all the eps.

I have to tell you that I can't help but think that there's an easier way to do this. You might want to hold off for a while in case somebody offers a better suggestion.

  7. You can convert the VOBs into MPG using TMPG DVD Author

    1. Open TMPG DVD Author
    2. Choose Create New Project
    3. Choose Add DVD Video
    4. Navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder and click OK

    YOU SHOULD SEE THIS

    5. Click Next and be sure to put a check in "Copy clip video data to the HD" (This extracts the vob and converts to MPG)

    6. You should see this

Great tip! Will it still work if the IFO and BUP's are invalid?

  10. Well I am in the process of using TMPGenc DVD Author and it seems to be working as long as I have a VIDEO_TS file. I'm extracting one of the episodes just now.

    Will update soon.

    Cheers

i just tried this, but it didn't work. is there any other way to merge vobs into one? i have TmpgEnc Author, but it doesn't read the audio on some (vob) clips, and i thought maybe if i combined the clips into one it would read it as one with audio, and then i could cut them apart in Author...

I really doubt that the audio will re-appear if you join the VOB's, but if you'd like to try, have a look at VOBedit.

thanks for that suggestion. the reason i think joining them might work is that i know the clips do have audio, shrink recognizes it, just not author. author, i have noticed, won't recognize audio in clips taken from larger files (like for instance if i cut out a little chunk of an episode in shrink, i can't import it to author with sound, but author will play the whole episode with sound.) i think author must be reading some of my special feature clips as part-files rather than whole files and that may be why it isn't recognizing the audio in them either.

so i downloaded vobedit and followed the guide (on burning and authoring dvd trailers with the prog) for joining clips, but after i clicked "okay" on the pop-up dialog, nothing happened. no progress bar, no new file, nothing.
    ???

I bet this will be because you didn't rename the files properly. When joining with VOBEdit, all files need to be VTS_aa_nnn.VOB, where aa is the titleset number and nnn is the VOB number (must be a 3 digit number so if you are dealing with VTS_xx_1.VOB files, it becomes 001), so VTS_01_1.VOB needs to be renamed to VTS_01_001.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB to VTS_01_002.VOB, and so on...

If you then wanted to add VTS_02_1.VOB to the end of these, you would rename it VTS_01_003.VOB.

    Get it ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
