  1. I have a 60mb m2v video file, and i'm unable to view the file. I've tried 2 mpeg 2 codecs, aswell as the core player, bsplayer, wmplayer, winamp, and power dvd.

When using Windows Media Player, i get some video in the beginning, but the audio is out of sync (it's not the file) Bsplayer crashes, Powerdvd simply displays a blank screen, the core player does the same.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or do you have a link for the appropriate codec?

Failing the above, i'd like to convert the file in to a viewable format (on my pc), how would i convert a M2V file into a XVID? I tried saving the file as .avi in virtualdub mod, but the 60mb file was converted, was over 3gb long!

Any help would be much appreciated, i took my time to search this forum/site, and was unable to find a link best describing my problem, if this subject has been discussed before, then i apologize.

  3. pretty sure that m2v files are just the video streams. You shouldn't be able to hear any audio at all.

  4. One player that will play m2v files is Videolan's VLC (freeware, I use it to check my m2v's)
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
But the file will only contain video (afaik).

Even though m2v files are usually video only, I've come across a few svcd clips that had sound and were named with a .m2v extension. Media Player Classic is another player than can natively decode mpeg-2 so you mght want to give that a try.

  7. Don't be surprised if you use media player classic on your m2v files and the audio is out of sync - it doesn't mean you're screwed. Sometimes they work great, sometimes not.

I do know though that mpc works wonderfully with the final vob files, and those are in sync perfectly.
