  1. First off, I'm a newbie at trying to do SVCD's. I am trying to burn a file from my DV camcorder as a SVCD. I saved the file to my hard drive as an AVI using Studio 8, but all attempts at burning the file to disc have failed. The source AVI is 6:50, but the SVCD ends up at 13:40, and playback freezes (video and audio) for about 1/2 second of every second of play. I have used Studio 8 to convert the file and burn it, I have tried to use TMPGEnc Plus, EO Video and MainConcept to convert the file to an MPG (which ends up being the proper length), then burn using Nero Express 5 and VCDEasy with the same result. As soon as I load the file in Nero it tells me that the file is 13:40 minutes long, so it's not because of my DVD player. I have tried with CBR and VBR. I could get the lenght of the SVCD to go down if I decrease the bitrate, but to get it to the proper length I have to drop the bitrate to 1100, which makes the video look terrible. I'm using an Athlon 2800+ running WinXP SP1. Any ideas?

  2. What is the source avi's compression codec, and what is it's original fps?

  3. The source codec is dvsd=Sony digital video, and I have also converted it to the Canopus Reference, with the same result. The framerate is 29.970 fps.

  4. You could maybe open it in Virtualdub, and frameserv it to your encoder.
If vdub sees the correct time, then you're set.
If it's still on the cam, I would use a different cap prog to get it into avi, and use a different capture codec on it as well, something more generic.
