i have 2 avi files which need to be joined together, i have various joining programmes but all of them say the same thing, that the audio bitrate is differant for each file and that it canot merge because of this, is there a way i can join my avi files with video and sound, i know how to merge the video files, i extracted video with vdub and ran both files through a merging programme and it worked without sound, but how can i join the 2 sound files? currently they are in wav format, one is 256kb/s the other is 192kb/s, can i somehow join these files? ready to convert to ac3 using ffmpegui?

They are likley not wav files with those data rates. They may be mp3 (or some other compression type) files with wav headesr and wav extensions.

Open them in goldwave, then 'save as' to a new file. Ensure you set the type to wav audio, 48khz for DVD or 44.1khz for (S)VCD and let it save. These files can then be joined in goldwave, each file should be a lot larger than its original if my theory regarding the rates being wrong for wav files is correct.
