  1. I have started having a profound problem lately. I have been making the most coasters ever! I've made at least 5 in a row. All of my DVDs will not burn properly. I have read about the superdrives (pioneer dvrw /dvr105) lasers becoming misalligned etc. However I have read about toast being finicky at times. My questions are simple:

1.) Can someone write a basic burn with Disk Utility Tutorial. I have created a new dmg from my backedup VIDEO_TS/AUDIO TS directory, (and before everyone jumps on my back my file hierarchy's are fine and I have made at least a hundred backups flawlessly) so my dvd title is
DVDVOLUME and i have created a DVDVOLUME.dmg containting VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS. Then i have tried to burn and it burned but is not recognized nor ejected when i put in in either my g4s. Can someone help?

2.) Now that disccomvobulator is gone what can i use to split a dvd-9 into two to keep the quality and keep dvd functions? I ask this for movies like the last emeror almost four hours long so theoretically the video is already compressed.

I think i had another but cannot recall it now, any tips hints etc will be greatly appreciated. oh yes and I did burn successfully a cd the other day and am about to test a data dvd (I think the physical laser is fine)

    1. use DVDImager to compose a DVD-UDF format image of the VIDEO_TS folder.
    2. mount the image and confirm it plays in apple dvd player
    3. open Disk Utility [apps/utilities/disk utility
    4. Go to IMAGES [in the top menu], choose BURN and select your disk image
off you go, couldnt get any easier

You might also try a different brand of DVD-R media. DVD2OneX can split DVDs without keeping any menus or other titles besides the main feature title using the 'join' mode (don't ask).
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  4. I just followed your directions, and i did my test of the mount it worked perfectly. I brought the img into disk utility selected burn/verify. it burned properly but failed verification. after i reinserted the disc it did not even read it/or eject it. it is as though the disc is not even there.

I didnt see what kind of media this is.
Sounds like its some media problem. Cheap media does this sort of thing. Hopefully its not a respected brand like TDK, Ritek etc.

  6. I have had problems with devices no longer mounting before. Running DiskWarrior by Alsoft solved the problem, I also repaired permissions and burned sacrifices at the altar of Norton. I'm assuming that your System Profiler shows your drive and that you can mount other DVD volumes.
