  1. Factory cartridges cost more money. Has anyone had good/bad experiences with generic branded cartridges ???

Don't have specifics, but from the info I've read over the years, generic ink is more of a bad than good idea.
There is a ton of counterfeit brand name ink out there as well.

  4. I've tried generic ink in my Epson Photo Printer. I printed two photos then chunked the ink in the trash. The colors weren't coming out right.

I have a cheap epson printer I use for covers, and I use ULTRA cheap print carts from a site like monsterinkjets or something like that, work great.

The idea is if eventually they mess the printer up, well its cheap carts in a cheap printer so I still got my money out of it.

I tried everything to get my inkjet costs down, including generic cartridges and even one of those refill kits that came with a little drill bit to put a hole in the old cartridge to fill it.

The generics are shit. They last about 40% as long as the name brand. Our printers are HP Deskjet 500C, HP Deskjet 600 and HP Deskjet 722C. We also have a Compaq/Lexmark 2400dpi inkjet but I've always used only factory cartridges in it. The factory HP cartridges are about $30, the generic about $24 and the refill kit about $15.

I still have black ink stains all over the 600 from the abortive refill attempt. The thing leaked ink all over once the hole was put in it. I did everything by the instructions but still it didn't work. I had black-stained hands for days :P I tried the refill method twice, with two different kits. Still no good. Ended up chucking it.

Now I only buy cartridges made by HP for that printer. I get better mileage out of the ink and it's probably cheaper in the long run than using a no-name cartridge.

  7. I get mine from inkgrabber.com for my EpsonR300. Works just like the retail Epson Carts. No problems at all.

  8. I buy my Canon ones from www.photoglossy.co.uk and they have been just as good as the genuine Canon ones.

The one thing I would stay away from is the cheap photo paper. It's even worse than printing onto toilet paper. And yes, I know someone who has actually tried.

I get them from a local PC supply store. I've never had to buy them online.

  12. I saw on the news there is one change of a printer store that does refill's. The news reporter said there refill work just as good as the real thing. Keep in mind this store has the right tool to open them up and the right ink's.

  14. Just a follow up on the the "generic" experience, the cartridges from www.inkgrabber.com worked just as good on my Epson Photo 825 as the originals after a couple of cleaning cycles

Both color and black cartridges w/ shipping totaled $11.35 8)

  15. I've never used them. I do almost all of my printing on a B/W Laser Printer, and I do my color printing at work.

After all, why spend your own money when you can mooch of the boss' ink supply?

There's a Lexmark Z515 printer at the local Wal-Mart for $30. It comes with black and color cartridges. When I get my 200 CD labels out of it, I'll throw it away and buy another printer. By then, that printer will cost $25.
